RISD ORIENTATION 2025

organizing and directing new student orientation

Working alongside the Center for Student Involvement (CSI) as one of the two student co-directors, I organized and facilitated new student orientation at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). My position involved planning events during orientation, spear-heading student leader staff training, and collaborating with RISD's Design Guild to implement the visual identity for RISD Orientation 2025.

My fellow co-director, Gonzalo Alvarez Garcia, and I centered our welcoming speech around the message: you belong at RISD. Evening events throughout orientation for new students emphasized this such as a scavenger hunt hosted at the RISD Museum, which encouraged new students to find works of art that resonated with them, or a dance party held at the Fleet Library, turning the beautiful library space into a lively dance floor with music from around the world.

Student leaders were staffed throughout orientation, visible by their brightly colored shirts. From helping freshmen with wayfinding around campus to setting up and breaking down events, these student leaders worked throughout orientation to give new students a warm welcome to RISD.

Another part of RISD Gonzalo and I wanted to showcase during new student orientation was the various offices, departments, resources, and spaces around campus that made this place feel like home. We invited the Student Fitness Center and Department of Public Safety to join us during carnival night and hosted an end of orientation celebration dance at Woods Gerry Gallery, collaborating with the Regenerative Earth Collective to hang wishing plaques in the garden.
